Whenever any person want to do some significant work, he/she has always set a big goal that in long run provides the reward for which that goal was initially set. Having a big goal is important, but there can be many small goals that can prove as important as the big ones. Because achieving a number of small goals daily can give a compound impact in the long run, which in turn can make you successful in achieving your main goals.
So, If you are looking for some small but important goals that can help you progress in your professional and personal life and to help you achieve the big goals as well, try setting and completing one of these simple small but effective following goals. Please Note there can be similar many other small but important goals, so these are some general goals that can be considered by anyone:-
Improving Skill by 1%: In your professional as well as in your personal life you need to have certain skills in order to do certain tasks. For example: For cooking meals you need to have cooking skills, for analysing data you need to have analytical skills. So It becomes important also to gradually improve those skills as there is no upper limit in learning and becoming better in them. 
You can set a goal to become just 1% better in a week in any of those skills which in turn makes you better in using those skills. This in turn will better your professional and personal life. 
Reading 1 chapter:- You can set a goal to read a chapter a day or a week from some best self help book or novel. As reading has proven beneficial in many ways in terms from developing your mindset or opening your mind to possibilities by the experiences of authors in many of these books. 
This is in turn will help you progress further in your life by opening you to opportunities that these books can show. So Try this goal and take the advantage of expensive experience and knowledge that books provide at cheap price.
15 Minute Exercise:- This goal is specially useful for people who don't have enough time daily to get good amount of exercise or who don't want to involve in rigorous workouts. Set a goal to do 15 minutes light gym exercise daily or do yoga or also you can involve in some sport like playing football, Basketball, Tennis etc. 
Specially for beginners this goal will prove fruitful as in this much time exercise will start impacting your health in a better way and at the same time will not be so boring and non-motivational that you want to leave. Gradually when you start enjoying and become comfortable with it, increase the time and intensity involved in it by small amount after a week. 
10 Minutes Meditation:- Meditation for many people seems not an important goal. Why? Just because it does not offer a tangible/physical reward. But what about improving your mind which is regularly involved in lot of tasks in your personal or career life and thus remains overwhelmed with lot of thoughts. And Your mind keeps wandering in completing your goals without proper rest, in which meditation proves beneficial.
Try Meditating daily for 10 minutes. Meditation simply means calming your mind from the thoughts that keep coming one after the another. Just Sit straight or lie down straight and breath slowly and try zero your thoughts. In the beginning it can be uncomfortable to do it. But regular practice will slowly start giving you the benefits that if offers. 
1 guidance a day or a week:- Try looking for someone's guidance/advice on any 1 aspect of your life a day or in a week. For example:- Asking your boss what 1 thing you can improve in your work or asking a friend what best meals he/she consumes for improving health etc. By just taking 1 advice/guidance a week or in a day will help compile a lot of guidance after a month or after a year. 
And Try implementing that advice to see if it helps you or not. This in turn will not only benefit you but will better your experience in your life related to this advice as well which in turn will make you wiser than you were before.
Consuming 1 healthy meal and avoiding 1 unhealthy meal:- Anyone who is having difficulty in improving his/her diet plan, This goal can do miracle. Just make a goal in the beginning to avoid 1 unhealthy meal and instead switch to a healthy meal. For examples: In your snacks time, instead of consuming ice-creams or chips, try having oats. 
This will slowly better your eating habits by taking you out a bad habit and building a healthy food eating habit to better your health. Gradually you can start doing this with your other meals so as to reach a point where you will be eating 3 or 4 unhealthy meals in a week but remember to reach this level slowly and gradually to have a greater impact.
Involve in a hobby:- Hobby is also important for anyone who want to experience some satisfaction in living life. Get involved in a Hobby that you want to do for a day within a week or some minutes say 25 to 60 minutes a day. The sense of satisfaction that a hobby can provide will not be provided even with the big goals set by you, because this gives you immediate joy or freedom of doing what you love.
